Kami Passmore smiling

Hi, I’m Dr Kami Passmore

“Christian spiritual formation is for us but not about us…what we receive we must give.”

If you are hungry to grow in deeper intimacy with God, you are not alone. I have spent my lifetime being loved into loving Him.

He is the One for whom my soul longs.

Like many, I’ve struggled with broken ways and lies I believed, but God always brought me back to His love. After being licensed for ministry, a seminary course on trinitarian theology revealed the deeper truth behind my experience of His longing love. I was inspired by the relationship of the Father, Son, and Spirit that extends to us and pursued doctoral studies to explore how others respond to this core Christian doctrine.

My findings drive me to keep the conversation alive, speaking of a God who longs to know us and be known by us, and who, in Christ, has given us the freedom to live fully free.

I hope that many will be liberated from fear, shame, and guilt and empowered to run with endurance in His strength.

WHY RUN WITH HORSES?

WHY RUN WITH HORSES?

“If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses?” Jeremiah 12:5

Athletes, scholars, and warriors train for excellence, committing to lifestyles that shape them for success in their arena. Christians train for excellence, committing to lifestyles that shape us for Christ's victory. Our arena becomes each moment we face challenges, secure in our intimacy with the Father through the Son and in the power of the Spirit.

My hope is that we become deeply rooted in Christ, free from limiting lies, and full participants in His work. I’m here to support you in living boldly, secure in Christ, and known by God, yourself, and others.

FAQs

  • Spiritual formation is about being changed from the inside out. In Christianity, it means the Spirit works in us to make us more like Jesus on the inside, and that change shows up in how we live and act on the outside. This process is centered on Jesus and can't be achieved by our own strength; it happens when we let the Spirit do the work in us. For more on this see Renovation of the Heart by Dallas Willard.

  • Though it's often thought of as just physical actions, this really has more to do with things like friendship, trust, and compassion. It’s about truly knowing someone and being known by them. Communicating with compassion helps build this kind of connection because it leads to better understanding and brings peace between people. For more on this, see How God Changes Your Brain by Andrew Newberg and Mark Robert Waldman.

  • At the heart of every person is a longing to be fully known and to deeply know someone else. You can see it even in a newborn baby who seeks connection. But fear, guilt, and shame often cause us to hide our true selves. Finding a safe community where we can truly know and be known by others helps us heal and become whole. For more on this, see Anatomy of the Soul by Curt Thompson.

  • Both mentors and coaches aim to help others discover their answers and reach their full potential. Mentors, however, share their own stories and experiences to guide others in finding their solutions, often offering advice based on their journey. Coaches, on the other hand, take a more structured approach, helping individuals set goals and find their own path through self-reflection and accountability. In RWH mentoring, there’s also the expectation that the Spirit is actively working in the life of the person being mentored.

  • The books we select focus on spiritual practices. While some discussion of the material is necessary, the primary focus will be on your personal experience with these practices—or any challenges you may encounter. Our goal is to cultivate a deeper hunger for God and a genuine openness to experiencing Him. Kami values knowing and being known by God and each other more than simply acquiring knowledge from the book.

For more on the practices, see Celebration of Discipline by Richard J. Foster or Practicing the Way by John Mark Comer.

  • No problem at all! If you are outside the greater Sacramento area, you are welcome to participate in our workshops, book studies, and most mentoring cohort meetings via Zoom. The cohort year begins and concludes with an in-person retreat, which we highly recommend. However, if attending in person isn’t possible, we would be happy to discuss how you can join us virtually.

  • My core beliefs center on the Trinity—Father, Son, and Spirit—who exist eternally in perfect unity and love. God created humans to join in this love and enjoy Him forever. The Son, Jesus, became human, lived a perfect life, died an innocent death, and rose again to conquer death and sin. By placing our faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of sins, we are restored to a relationship with the Father through the Son, empowered by the Spirit. We receive a new identity as God's children and are invited to share in His life, love, and mission. Please see the following for the fundamentals:

  • Not at all! In fact, we encourage you to share the insights and growth you gain from mentoring, workshops, and book studies with your communities, both within and beyond the church. Our hope is that you will experience a deeper connection with God, yourself, and others, and that your life will reflect the courage of a devoted member of the Body of Christ. We envision you spreading His love to your local church, community, and even to the farthest corners of the world.

    • In 1:1 mentoring, as with any pastoral situation, Kami respects your need for confidentiality.

    • In group settings, it is explicitly understood that the group is a safe place to share — what is said in the group stays in the group.

    • For book studies, we have chosen to communicate via the Slack app on our phones, as some members are not comfortable communicating through social media groups or other online forums.
